About the Financial Services Council
As the voice of the sector, the Financial Services Council is a non-profit member organisation with a vision to grow the financial confidence and wellbeing of New Zealanders and a purpose to be the voice of the financial services sector. FSC members commit to delivering strong consumer outcomes from a professional and sustainable financial services sector. Our 106 members manage funds of more than $95bn and pay out claims of $2.8bn per year (life and health insurance). Members include the major insurers in life, health, disability and income insurance, fund managers, KiwiSaver and workplace savings schemes (including restricted schemes), professional service providers, and technology providers to the financial services sector.
The business has grown significantly and the FSC has rolled out a new strategic plan with a focus on policy engagement and development, as well as advocacy and consumer engagement.
About the Role
We are looking to engage a Chief Operating Officer to support the growth of the FSC, providing leadership and strategic direction, and delivering operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Operations
Lead, guide and drive all operational functions including:
- Governance (Board, AGM, FSC Rules)
- Finance (Budget setting, revenue and expense management, annual accounts, audit)
- HR and team management and recruitment (to ensure a thriving and productive team)
- Administration
- Management of legal issues
Strategic Planning and Governance
- Guide, drive and lead strategic and operational business planning, with a focus on delivery
- Translate strategy into actionable goals for performance and growth helping to implement goal setting, performance management, and annual operating planning.
- Continue to deliver FSC guidelines
- Development of FSC Code of conduct
Policy Leadership
- Build, develop and implement a proactive policy development framework
- Provide analysis, direction and advocacy to develop policy and communication strategies
- Strategically position the FSC as a leader in policy development and analysis
Stakeholder Management and Engagement
- Grow, develop and strengthen new and existing relationships with key stakeholders across the sector
- Develop and implement a programme to identify and progress relationship-building opportunities
- Develop broad coalitions among the broader financial industry to maximise the effectiveness of FSC advocacy as appropriate
- Advocate on behalf of the sector to Ministers, regulators, agencies and their key staff
- Assist in establishing goals and deliverables to strategically position the FSC as a key stakeholder in the New Zealand financial services sector
- Collaborate effectively internally with key business partners
Key Projects and Initiatives
- Lead, guide and drive all major projects.
Skills, knowledge, and attributes
- Proven experience at a leadership level.
- Strong understanding of New Zealand’s economic, political and regulatory environment.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen with a comprehensive understanding of governance issues.
- Strong experience presenting across all levels of an organisation, including Board.
- High level interpersonal, and relationship building skills
