The Te Ara Ahunga Ora, Retirement Commission's National Strategy for Financial Capability 2025-2027 was launched in October 2024. This strategy brings together over 900 partners, including FSC's Empower Women, to deliver meaningful financial outcomes for New Zealanders.

Building on the National Strategy 2022-2024, and the successful collaboration between Women in Super and FSC with our It Starts with Action campaign, this strategy lays down the challenge for those in the financial sector to work together to help New Zealanders increase their financial wellbeing and resilience.

This challenge is reflected in our own Empower Women initiatives, as we continue to lead collaborative efforts focused on breaking down silos. By coming together, we aim to move forward stronger and drive positive change.

With Māori, Pacific Peoples and women remaining at the forefront of the key priority groups, young people have been added as an additional area of focus.

Goals of the three year work plan are to:

  • support people to grow their money;
  • help build resilience for the unexpected;
  • lift financial capability through education and training; and
  • leverage collective impact.

FSC's Empower Women taking action

With women's financial discomfort worsening over time, with 62% reporting financial stress, FSC's Empower Women will lead a 2025 initiative in supporting workplaces to shift the dial for women.

By bringing together, leveraging, and enhancing existing tools and resources through collective efforts, we can support the much-needed change to improve financial wellbeing for women.

Empower Women members are invited to take part in this initiative - please register your interest by contacting fsc@fsc.org.nz. We will be in touch early in the New Year with an invite to our first initiative strategy session.
