Every month Centrix releases the ‘Credit Indicator Report', which analyses New Zealand's credit data, focusing on emerging trends and their possible impacts.

This report helps paint a picture of the current economic climate and consumer confidence. 

The June Credit Indicator shows the number of people behind on payments has increased.

June 2024 highlights are as follows: 

  • The number of people that are behind on their payments has increased to 474,000.
  • Mortgage arrears are slightly up, with 22,000 home loans reported as past due, up by 300 from last month, which is 12% higher year-on-year.
  • Consumers under the age of 25 are among those hit hardest by the cost-of-living crisis.
  • 233 companies were placed into liquidation in May 2024, the highest May total since 2014
