Financial Resilience Index 2023

March 15, 2024

The Financial Resilience Index is a tracking survey of New Zealanders’ views on five key resilience indicators which the FSC undertakes annually.

We started tracking the financial confidence and wellbeing of New Zealanders in March 2020, just as COVID-19 was becoming a reality, and has tracked views over the past three years, with the latest survey in field this March, generating 2,030 responses.

Perhaps with a feeling of relief as the COVID-19 pandemic started to move behind us, borders opened and life started to head to some normality.

However, Mother Nature struck again with severe weather affecting many New Zealanders, and with the global impact of the war in the Ukraine we have seen a cost-of-living crisis hit our shores as the OCR hit 5.25%, the highest in 14 years.

This index reveals how Kiwis are faring through these tough times.

About the research

The research was conducted via an online survey developed and hosted by CoreData.  All samples are representative of the New Zealand consumer population in terms of age, gender and income based on the latest Stats NZ data. The data collected forms the basis of this report.
