The FSC and the Workplace Savings community attended an in-person Half-Yearly Function in Wellington and Auckland on Monday 4 May 2026.
This in-person event was open to all Trustees (including Chairs and LITs), and service providers to restricted workplace savings schemes.
Attendees heard from FMA’s Subbu Somasundaram with an update from the Financial Markets Authority (FMA). He is a Principal Adviser in Investment Management at the FMA, specializing in financial regulation. He has a background in investment management and contributes to the regulation of financial market participants.
Mike Woodbury also presented a brief update on behalf of the FSC Workplace Savings Committee.

Subbu is a CFA Charterholder with a strong passion for regulation, finance, and the investment sector. Currently serving as a Principal Adviser in Investment Management, Subbu specialises in Managed Investment Schemes (MIS), KiwiSaver, and restricted schemes. With over six years of experience in New Zealand’s supervisory and regulatory landscape, he brings expertise and insights into oversight of investment managers.
Prior to this, Subbu was a career regulator at the Reserve Bank of India, where he spent more than five years in prudential supervision supervising banks and non-banks.
