Good governance for financial services organisations

What does good governance in financial services organisations look like? How can we foster good governance?

With so much movement in the regulatory world, good governance within your organisation becomes vital to ensure operations are running smoothly, and to be able catch flags when they appear.
 
On Tuesday 2 May we hosted a webinar where our experts engaged in a stimulating and thought-provoking conversation about what you should be seeing in your organisation, how governance could change across the financial services and what 'good governance' for financial services organisations actually looks like in practice. 
 
  

Speakers 

Kirsten Patterson
Chief Executive, Institute of Directors

Kirsten Patterson is the Chief Executive of the Institute of Directors. She is a qualified lawyer and a Distinguished Fellow of the Human Resources Institute of New Zealand. Her governance roles include:

  • Co-deputy Chair, Global Network of Directors Institutes (GNDI)
  • Chair, Brian Picot Ethical Leadership advisory board
  • Director, NZ Rugby Foundation
  • Trustee, Voices of Hope
  • Board member, XRAP Advisory Panel, External Reporting Board (XRB)
  • Ambassador, Wellington Homeless Women’s Trust. 

With extensive governance and leadership experience, she is actively involved in community initiatives.

A strong advocate of diversity, KP was also a founding member of Global Women’s ‘Champions for Change’, a group of senior executives and directors who commit to diversity in the workplace, and a founding member of WiSPA, an organisation promoting women in sport, and mentors a number of business leaders.

 

Trish Oakley
Head of Summer, Forsyth Barr
Pro Chancellor, University of Otago

Trish Oakley (BCom, CFInstD) is a member of the Institute of Directors (IoD), Otago-Southland Branch committee chair, a representative on the IoD’s National Council and Director of the IoD’s board.

She joined Forsyth Barr Ltd in March 2000 where she is Head of Summer. Trish has over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, having previously worked in banking.  

She is currently Pro Chancellor of the University of Otago, and director of University of Otago Holdings. Trish is also a member of the New Zealand Lotteries Commission.

Trish holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Otago.
