Help us build the first industry-wide picture of the gender pay gap

How big is the gender pay gap across New Zealand’s financial services sector?

The honest answer is we don’t know.

We have national statistics and individual company data, but we don’t yet have a clear industry-wide baseline. That’s something FSC is looking to change.

As part of our Empower Women programme, we’re asking members to share their gender pay gap data so we can build the first aggregated view of where our sector stands today.

Why does it matter?

Because what gets measured gets managed.

Without a baseline, it’s difficult to know whether we’re making progress, where challenges remain or how our sector compares over time.

This is not about naming and shaming organisations. All data will remain confidential and results will only be reported in aggregate form.

It’s about building a clearer picture of our industry and creating a benchmark we can track year after year.

The financial and insurance services sector currently has a reported gender pay gap of around 23%, compared with a national average of 5.2%. Understanding what sits behind that number is an important first step.

The more organisations that participate, the stronger and more meaningful the insights will be.

If you haven’t yet submitted your data, we encourage you to get involved.
