There's just over a month to go until our 2023 Future Ready Advice Summits for the professional advice community. 

The Summit is designed to support both large Financial Advice Providers (FAPs) and individually licensed advisers through the new financial advice regime commencing on 16 March 2023, as well as provide opportunities to network with and learn from your peers.

The event will be held across four locations:

  • Auckland, Eden Park, 15 February
  • Wellington, Sky Stadium, 16 February
  • Dunedin, Dunedin Town Hall, 21 February
  • Christchurch, Christchurch Town Hall, 22 February

The Masterclass will be a highlight of the day for attendees looking for practical strategies to take the strain out of yearly regulatory returns, maintain licensing requirements and be future ready. Designed for small and medium sized FAPs, this session is designed to get you thinking and put processes in place and will be run by experts in this area: 

Don Trapnell, Non-Executive Chairman, Synchron (Australia)

Don Trapnell has 50 years of experience in financial services and is an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Australian and NZ Institute of Insurance and Finance. Don has been a principal of financial services distribution organisations since 1989. He is a director and chairman of the Synchron subsidiary and a shareholder of its ASX parent WT Financial Group Limited

Melanie Purdey, Compliance Refinery

Melanie’s passion is to ensure all New Zealanders have access to quality financial advice. For that reason, she is committed to helping as many adviser businesses stay in the game through the current regulatory change dynamic. Having served in the financial services industry for nearly 30 years in NZ and Canada, Melanie was Head of Aligned Advice for AIA, CEO of Newpark Group representing over 400 adviser businesses and facilitated the advice and compliance programs for 35 AFA’s at Medical Assurance Society for 9 years.

Melanie has also run her own businesses overseas and here so understands the dynamic of the owner/director. As a former adviser for several years, she has a profound understanding of the client experience and how to build trusted relationships that deliver great client outcomes. Melanie also has a background in Mediation and is a member of AMINZ (Arbitrators and Mediators Institute of NZ) and a Member of the Institute of Directors NZ.

Steven Burgess, Compliance Refinery

Steven is a longstanding compliance professional with upstanding integrity. He has been employed at the FMA and the Canadian Securities Regulator, IIROC. He has four years’ experience working in areas related to FAA at a large NZ Financial Services Company. Furthermore, he has 7 years’ experience working in both big banks and boutique firms in Canada.

Through Steven’s career he has had oversight of over more than 100 Adviser Businesses. He has developed a deep appreciation for the adviser/client relationship, while maintaining focus on client outcomes. His skillset brings both a top-down and bottom-up approach, which allows him to navigate senior level personnel and regulators, while fully understanding the adviser/client interaction.

David Greenslade, Executive Director, Strategi Compliance

David is the owner of Strategi Group which he started in 1999. Strategi Institute was then launched in 2009 to provide regulatory and CPD training for the financial services industry.

He holds a ‘lead auditor’ qualification and is involved with the New Zealand Organisation for Quality.  He is a member of the Institute of Management and Leadership (MIML), and of the New Zealand Institute of Directors. In addition, he is a member of the Financial Dispute Resolution Service’s expert panel, and a member of the Financial Services Sector Review Group (FS-SRG), which is working to draft the new educational qualifications for financial advisers. He is also on the board of both Britannia Financial Services and Milestone Direct.

In his spare time David likes running, cycling, hiking and travelling the world.
