It's a wrap: Future Ready Auckland

Our final Future Ready Advice Summit took place on Wednesday 15 March 2023 at The Cordis in Auckland. Here's a summary of the key highlights.

Morning

Political keynotes and a conversation with the regulator

Our morning at The Cordis began with a pre-recorded address from Hon Dr Duncan Webb (Minister for Commerce and Consumer Affairs) and an in-person address and Q&A with Andrew Bayly (MP for Port Waikato and National Party Spokesperson for Commerce and Consumer Affairs).

Our MC Trisha Edmonds then facilitated a conversation with the team from the FMA: Romil Ghelani (Manager - Financial Advice Supervision), Anita Frazer (Head of Licensing and Regulatory Services) and Derek Grantham (Technical Specialist, Market Engagement). 

We also acknowledged and thanked John Botica for his engagement with the industry and the professional advice community.

Economic update + getting your business future ready

BetaShares' Chief Economist David Bassanese provided a highly topical update on the global economy and the impact on New Zealand markets. 

Following this, we ran a panel discussion about getting your business future ready with experts Don Trapnell, Josie Vella, Royden Shotter, Anna Schubert and Melanie Purdey. Don and Josie shared their experience with the Next Gen programme across the ditch in Australia, sharing learnings for the NZ delegates in the room.

Trailblazers panel

The FSC's Head of Content Clarissa Hirst facilitated a kōrero with trailblazing advisers Elle Wuthrich, Rory Butterfield, Yang Gu and Monalisa Urquhart, who shared their insights into embracing new technology while maintaining a personal touch, parallels between the world of rugby and financial advice, and their tips for what everyone in the audience could do differently.

Our audience broke into small groups for the Meet the Professionals sessions on topics such as:

• How to promote your business in a crowded market
• How to simply and effectively structure your next presentation
• Passive vs active: Is the debate over?
• Creating a QA programme
