The Future Ready Virtual Summit was held on Thursday 17 February 2022. A face to face summit is being planned when Covid-19 rules allow.

This virtual event included politicians David Clark and Andrew Bayly, FMA speakers John Botica and Derek Grantham, the latest from AIA on their New Zealand Adviser Wellbeing Research plus we had a real life story from a Queenstown business that was a highlight of the day. MC Trisha Edmonds, Head of Advisory Distribution Funds, ANZ Investments is highly experienced in the financial services industry, having held senior roles in Armstrong Jones, ING and ANZ Investments. Trisha is a Justice of the Peace, Chair of Charitable Trust ‘STOP’, facilitator for the Financial Capability Commission, Co-Chair on FSC’s Professional Advice Committee and a senior mentor.

Andrew Bayly is Member for Port Waikato for the National Party and responsible for Finance and Expenditure. He is also spokesperson for: Building and Construction, Commerce, Consumer Affairs, Manufacturing, Revenue and Small Business.

with John Botica and Derek Grantham

John Botica, Director of Market Engagement and acting Director of Regulation, leads the FMA’s market engagement activities. He is an experienced senior executive, director and consultant in the financial services industry. In previous roles, he was the co-founder of the Assure NZ Group, managing director at Guardian Trust and general manager wealth management at AXA.

Derek Grantham, Principal Consultant at the FMA and a former financial adviser is a sought-after speaker and frequent FSC panellist, Derek is a strong advocate for the sector in the new regulatory environment and always brings a refreshing, pragmatic voice to the table. Outside of work, Derek enjoys spending time with his family, and their two crazy but adorable dogs, Bear and Frankie.



FSC Future Ready Advice Summit – NZ in Focus Session 1 – The iFLY Queenstown story with Matt Wong.

Matt Wong, Managing Director and Owner, iFLY Indoor Skydiving Queenstown, has held senior positions in the travel and tourism industry over the past 20 years. When international borders closed in March 2020 the Queenstown tourism market lost 80% of its entire customer base overnight. The challenges facing the industry are still ongoing but h sees opportunities to take advantage of the situation, not of people.



FSC Future Ready Advice Summit – NZ in Focus Session 2 – New Zealand Adviser Wellbeing Research.

Sam Tremethick, introduced by Clarissa Hirst, presented the latest adviser wellbeing research, sponsored by AIA.

The research was undertaken to better understand:
  • How are financial advisers in New Zealand doing in terms of their mental health, wellbeing, stress levels, work-life balance,
    quality of life, and engagement in their work?
  • For the advisers that have good wellbeing, mental health, quality of life, and work-life balance,what are the behaviours and strategies they implement to thrive in these areas?
  • What are the attitudes, behaviours, and key focuses of advisers who are evolving and innovating their businesses to cope with all the change they are experiencing?

     

Sam Tremethick, AIA Chief Partnership Insurance Officer, has extensive experience in the financial services sector. Prior to joining AIA New Zealand he was the Regional Head of IFA and High Net Worth at AIA Group Office in Hong Kong, responsible for leading growth strategy across 18 markets throughout Asia Pacific.
