Climate Related Disclosure in New Zealand

Written by The FSC team | September 10, 2021

FSC Connect Webinar - The why, what, when and how of climate-related disclosure in Aotearoa New Zealand

The External Reporting Board (XRB) is the independent Crown entity responsible for developing and implementing accounting, audit and assurance standards for Aotearoa New Zealand. Now, it is also responsible for creating climate-related disclosure standards.

Climate reporting will take Aotearoa New Zealand a step closer towards a low-emissions future and a cleaner safer planet for future generations. It also makes good business sense, with investors and consumers increasingly demanding companies disclose how they are managing their climate-related risks and identifying climate-related opportunities.

In this session, April Mackenzie, Chief Executive of the XRB, provided attendees with an overview of:

  • climate risks and opportunities
  • the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework
  • the process for developing the standards – what to expect and when
  • the Governance and Risk Management section of the new standard due out for consultation soon
  • future issues on the XRB’s agenda, such as scenario analysis and GHG accounting
