To better understand the gender pay gap across the FSC membership, the FSC Board has endorsed a proposal from the FSC’s Empower Women Working Group encouraging voluntary reporting of gender pay gap data by 31 March 2026.
The gender pay gap in New Zealand’s financial services sector is 23%, compared to the national average of 5.2%.
There are many benefits to measuring and reporting on gender pay gaps including a more gender equal workplace, increased productivity and morale and a positive public image as an organisation that recruits, promotes and values without bias . In addition, we know that the gender pay gap is a significant factor contributing to the gender retirement/KiwiSaver savings gap.
This initiative aims to benchmark the FSC community’s gender pay gap and drive action to reduce it.
The Minister for Women recently joined an FSC Empower Women event focused on addressing the gender pay gap in our industry.
Submit your number
The FSC Board encourages members to calculate their gender pay gap using the Ministry for Women’s Gender Pay Gap Toolkit and submit your number by 31 March 2026.
We know that some of our members already publish their pay gaps. As a first step, please can you let us know if you do, or don’t here. If you do already report, we will source and include your result in our data collection.
The toolkit is simple to use, and many FSC members already apply this methodology. You can find out more by watching the ‘How To Guide’ from the Ministry for Women here.
Members with fewer than 20 employees
We encourage all members to calculate their gender pay gap and use it to drive action. However, the Ministry for Women recommends publishing data when an organisation has at least 10 women and 10 men to protect privacy.
If you do not meet these criteria, please let us know here.
Pay Gap Insights Hub
Members who wish to publish their data can do so at any time via the Pay Gap Insights Hub, where you can also see other FSC members that currently publicly provide their pay gap.
Thank you for your support as we work together to reduce the gender pay gap in our industry.
