Climate and Sustainability: An international view with FTSE Russell

We were joined online on Thursday 16 March at 3.30pm with the international team at FTSE Russell, a London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) Business who dialled in from around the globe as they give an worldwide view of climate and sustainability. 
 
Head of Sustainable Investments - Pacific Trista Rose, Head of Sustainable Investments - Asia Helena Fung and Head of Index Investment Groups - Pacific David Ho will take us through aligning capital markets with sustainability goals with standards and regulation, sustainability disclosures for companies and financial products and the progress in New Zealand.

Trista Rose
Head of Sustainable Investments - Pacific

As Head of Sustainable Investments for the Pacific, Trista Rose is responsible for FTSE Russell’s Sustainable Investment indexes, data and analytics solution across Australia and New Zealand.

Trista is passionate about climate and sustainability and joined FTSE Russell in early 2022 after working for an energy economist for a climate think tank.  Amongst her prior experiences, Trista worked for investment banks in London, New York and Sydney and was part of the proprietary trading team at Macquarie bank. Trista has degrees from the University of Queensland, University of Oxford and is now pursuing a Master’s in Sustainability at University of Sydney.

 

Helena Fung
Head of Sustainability - Asia

As Head of Sustainable Finance and Investment, Asia Pacific, Helena is responsible for the London Stock Exchange’s sustainable indexes, data and analytics solutions and strategy across the Asia Pacific region. A core part of her role is client and industry engagement on a comprehensive range of products and data to support the integration of sustainability into investment and financing decisions. Working with research and leadership teams, she has a responsibility for developing the London Stock Exchange’s Asia Pacific sustainable finance and investment product strategy and expansion. 

Helena relocated to Hong Kong in 2014 from London - a key hub for ESG investments, where she worked for the responsible investment arm of Hermes Investment Management as global head of client relations, enabling pension funds and asset managers to integrate sustainability criteria into passive and active portfolios. Helena’s experience prior to joining FTSE Russell included ESG integration, equity analysis and advising on philanthropy for family office, asset management and institutional clients. She has been working in ESG and Sustainable Investment since 2008, including providing advisory research on stewardship implementation for pension funds and family office clients, drafting responsible investment policies and integrating sustainability policies into both active and passive portfolios.  

 

David Ho
Head of Index Investments Group - Pacific

David currently heads up the FTSE Russell indexing business in Australia and New Zealand and looks to bring personalisation, innovation and sustainability options to the indexing market. David sits on the APAC leadership team and has a deep understanding of the asset management having held critical roles and senior roles throughout the asset management vaue chain. 

Prior to joining FTSE Russell David worked with a global ETF issuer tasked with bringing their range of products to the Australian market and previously spent over 7.5 years with the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) looking after the cash equity trading platform working with investment banks, portfolio managers and dealing desks as well as with the ASX Investment products business – tasked with and succeeding in building investor preferences in listed assets and managed investment schemes. 

This was achieved through building out the supply of new listed investment products such as ETFs, Active ETFs and mFunds and developing distribution channels to key client segments including AFS License holders (Dealergroups), financial planners, accountants, retail brokers and retail investors. 

David is also a board director of Burman Investment Management, an Australian Asset Management firm focused on Australian Listed companies and focusses on company compliance and governance. 

David is passionate about giving back and dedicates a large proportion of his spare time on philanthropic activities being the Head of APAC for the London Stock Exchange Foundation, donating over a million dollars each year to much needed charities in the region, he sits on the committee of the Australian Stockbrokers Foundation and is a guest lecturer and program sponsor at UNSW and University of Melbourne looking to improve financial literacy particularly in the future female leaders and making the students “work ready”.
